Our Services

How will this benefit my child? – ‘Additional literacy input, within a small and supportive group, allows the child opportunities to revisit and consolidate prior knowledge whilst exploring and applying new concepts.’

Literacy is NOT just reading and writing, it is so much more.

Term-Time Literacy Classes

A carefully tailored programme for Reception children, which not only runs in line with the term dates of the pre-prep schools in the area but also shadows their curriculum. The programme spans the academic year but there is no expectation to commit for the full year – Your child will be selected for the class that is right for them following the initial assessment session. Children will be able to join for a term at a time but will also be given a priority space in the next terms class that is developmentally right for them on completion.

Careful consideration has gone into the planning and resourcing of these classes. Of course, 1:1 targeted teaching has its benefits but when children are required to learn within a small group the opportunities are vast. In these small group scenarios, there are opportunities for:

  Improved Communication Skills: Children learn to express their ideas clearly and listen to others.

  Collaboration: They develop teamwork skills by working together towards a common goal.

  Enhanced Understanding: Discussing concepts with peers can reinforce learning and clarify doubts.

  Social Skills: Interacting with a diverse group of peers helps improve social interactions and empathy.

  Problem-Solving: Working together encourages creative solutions and critical thinking.

  Increased Engagement: Small group activities often make learning more interesting and engaging.

  Confidence Building: Presenting ideas in smaller groups can boost confidence before larger presentations.

  Peer Support: Children can support and motivate each other, reducing feelings of isolation.

  Diverse Perspectives: During reading opportunities the children are exposed to the different experiences of others
